Grooveshark: A Great User Interface and User Experience

groovesharklogo When it comes to music, the Internet is full of websites that can provide good music listening services. That is a good thing because diversity is important and competition drives innovation. I know that most of you have already a favorite service like Last.fm or Imeem, but check this service too. I’m talking about Gooveshark, a great music service.

A great user interface

First I want to congratulate the entire UI team for doing such a great job. Grooveshark has one of the most unique user interfaces compared to similar services. Right from the start you can see a big search box dedicated for your favorite songs. A wise decision since the first thing that you wanna do on this kind of site is to look for your songs.

Being developed in Flex (if I’m not mistaken), it gave the UI developers great flexibility. That is why all the interface elements are nicely placed and have a general feeling of polished. You will see that all elements have proper spacing and can also be easily identified. Great properties that make this interface usable and friendly.

… and nice set of features

When it comes to features, Grooveshark is a champion. Whether you want social features or just playback this is the place to be. You can search for different types of elements like songs, albums, artists or even different users. All results are nicely displayed and you can choose to add, to play or create a new playlist. Grooveshark can help you promote yourself if you are a wannabe artist. You can check the site for all of its features. It will take you 5 minutes at max to get used to all the user interface and in the end you will realize that Grooveshark delivers a good user experience.

A drawback that is somehow indirect is the fact that sometimes the site is not responding. Maybe due to multiple requests and to low bandwidth (I have sometimes this problem), you will have interruptions during playback. Anyway, they are my favorite right now because with Grooveshark I was able to find the Transformers and The Dark Knight soundtrack . Two big thumbs up, Kudos for this great service and keep up the good work. Cheers!
