Gratings 2008 – Vaporware
This is the first category for our first edition of Gratings – VAPORWARE. In this category we will present few candidates for the title of Vaporware 2008. In order for an optimal start we will define the vaporware term for those of you unfamiliar with this word.
Definition of vaporware: The marketing practice of announcing the imminent release of a product that does not actually exist and may not ever exist.
The nominees:
1. Trillian Astra
I really don’t think I will live to see Trillian Astra installed on my pc. I think 80 years from now, Trillian Astra will still be under development. Just kidding! It is possible to see this app ready in 1st quarter of 2009. Still, there are 3 years of development which make this app a perfect vaporware.

2. CSS3
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a stylesheet language used to describe the presentation of a document written in a markup language. Its most common application is to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML. It is consider a vaporware because CSS1 was released in 1996 and CSS2 in 1998. Should I continue?
Time: around 10 years so far…
3. Disciples 3 Renaissance
The first 2 games from this franchise were some of the best turn base strategies when they were released. The second Disciples was very successful gaining multiple awards from the game industry. And here comes the third game … or it doesn’t. One thing is clear, since 2002 when the second game was released, no other game was developed. Conclusion
We really don’t care about the problems that are a part of the development process. We just want a better marketing education for their managers. The PR and Marketing must be better connected with the development. Even with changes, Trillian Astra, Disciples 3 and CSS3 will always be a part of the vaporware “movement”.
