Microsoft.com's design "polished"

microsoft logo1 Microsoft.com's design "polished"This year Microsoft was by far the company with the most redesigns on the web. Major parts of Microsoft.com as well as other web proprieties where redesigned. Most of them had very good results, some were just OK.

Now, it looks like Microsoft has made another redesign or at least some rearranging session – the Microsoft.com Homepage. The changes are not spectacular because most of the design style is still here. The new thing in this movement is the placement of a new component and the removal of an older one. In this case I’m referring at the navigation system which was a vertical menu in the past and now it is a long horizontal. The change is pour on the visual side because the new navigation is quite ugly. I think they have the ability to make that menu fit more. Until then, the menu will not have the same look and feel of the site.

The change that I like and I think it will be good for their business it is the emphasizing of the search box. This is important to stand out because it will transfer some of the Microsoft.com visitors to Live.com. With this move maybe the market share of Live.com will grow.

Overall the rearrangements are towards bad, because that menu looks bad, especially the mouse over state. They should try harder because the site is very important and it needs to be flawless.
