Disciples III Renaissance running for vaporware
Let me tell you this, and do not argue. Disciples was and still is the best turn based strategy ever. Compared to Heroes franchise, Disciples was far more entertaining with awesome artwork and cool characters. You can admit that, since in Heroes 3 at the credits section it was mentioned that some artifacts and items were inspired from Disciples.

So what’s with the “positive” title? Well, before I have to tell you some dates related to the Disciples game titles. The first game, entitled Disciples: Sacred Land was launched in October 1999 by Strategy First. It had many nice reviews and it was the only true competitor to Heroes of Might and Magic. With its dark artwork and addictive gameplay, it was an easy bait for the gamers. A sequel was inevitable and after 2 years, in January 2002, Disciples II was released. Only this time the developers had pushed the game to a whole new level. Same dark art style, but only darker, new hybrid engine with great effects and new stories were here to stay and make this version a hit.
Along with the second title, from time to time were released other service packs but now new film. Keep in mind that the last version of the game was built early in 2002. A new one was announced in 2005 – Disciples III Renaissance. And from here starts my topic for this post. The development process started in 2005, it was announced (don’t know an earlier date) in the 4th quarter of 2007. Then, it was postponed to 1st quarter of 2008. But the first months of 2008 had passed for some time and another delay was announced to the 4th quarter of 2008.
Guess what? The game release was canceled and again postponed to 1st quarter of 2009. I don’t know if any gambling site is taking bets on this, but I am willing to bet that the 1st quarter of 2009 will not be enough for Strategy First. So, this is my reason for labeling Disciples 3 as VAPORWARE.
Cheers!

Just this month Akella bought the rights to Disciples 3. I’m not really afraid of this becoming vaporware.

Thanks for the update. Still the development has been way too slow.
Anyway, very cool move from Akella. They have the design and development skills, hopefully they will also have the marketing skills.
Cheers!
guess what? the new “release date” is now Q3 2009
